About

About

Cultural intelligence is the ability to effectively interact and communicate with people from a different countries and cultures. Richard gives talks, conducts training workshops, and provides coaching and consulting on cultural intelligence (also known as cultural competence or cultural fluency). 

 

He is a certified cultural intelligence (CQ) instructor through the Cultural Intelligence Center. At Nationwide Insurance and JPMorgan Chase, Richard started and led the Cultural Conversation Group. The group at Nationwide brought together employees from various countries to get to know each other and learn about each other's culture.  At Chase Richard facilitated monthly sessions on topics related to culture, to help raise the level of CQ and create a more inclusive environment. Sessions covered such topics as dietary preferences, holidays and special occasions, specific cultures and religions, sports, arts, and cross-cultural communication. Attendance averaged 100 participants and included employees from across the globe.

Richard has given cultural intelligence presentations for National Management Training Week, the Central Ohio ISACA (Information Systems Audit and Control Association) chapter, the Central Ohio InfoSec Summit, COISSA (Central Ohio Information Systems Security Association), One Dublin, National Church Residences, Expesite, and other organizations. He served on a panel - sponsored by the Columbus Chamber of Commerce - on the topic of cultural intelligence.   

 

Richard has traveled to Europe, Honduras, India, and Israel and has an ongoing desire to learn and teach about other countries, cultures, and worldviews.

 

Richard has spent most of his career in information technology where he has worked on diverse teams that have spanned several continents. His experience includes cybersecurity, internal audit, project management, desktop support, and IT training. With his extensive experience in IT, Richard can adeptly relate and apply cultural intelligence to diverse IT organizations.

Cross-Cultural Communication – Strategies for a More Effective Workplace

Communication between people of different cultures can present unique challenges (beyond just language differences). This talk looks at various communication and personality styles, non-verbal communication, and vocabulary variations, and provides practical strategies for clear, respectful and effective communication.

What in the World is Your Worldview?

This talk explains what a worldview is, how a person’s worldview is developed, categories of worldviews, questions addressed by worldviews, and the importance of understanding your own worldview.  Participants will get an overview of the world’s major belief systems and will be shown why religious literacy is essential to understanding the world around us.
